In welcoming the International Council of Design (ico-D) 28th General Assembly to Vancouver, the Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) hosted an inspiring line-up of events at Emily Carr University of Art and Design (ECUAD). The keynote event “Practivism X” was about envisioning and mobilising a better future through practical methods for radical sustainability in design. The event was an opportunity for networking with the local Vancouver design community and the ICoD international community. 

 

We were tasked to come up with a visual system focused on how we, as designers, can wield the power of our talents to be the catalyst for maximum positive impact. The overall concept was based on a simple spark/flame, which transforms and builds up into complex forms representing the ripple effect of igniting positive social change. The patterned motif finally settles into an abstracted X marking the tenth year of Practivism (practice + activism).
